Miller's Dairy

We now get milk from Miller's Dairy in Carluke. They're a family run dairy that's in it's third generation and have an excellent reputation. We've looked into their milk source now and they've handpicked two local dairy farms. The milk isn't certified but we're happy with it's origins. There's no growth hormones, antibiotics, the land is grazed sympathetically with no sprayed pesticides. Silage is cut at the farm and if there's any extra feed it's malted barley and the odd cabbage in winter.

It was a shame to loose Orchard Farm Dairy after 5 years. That's the cruel economics of dairy at the moment, farmers aren't getting paid enough for their milk. Also Grahams Dairy moving into wholesaling in Hawick stole their trade and the big boys have cleaned up again. Now milk from Selkirk goes to Grahams near Stirling be processed and then is driven back to be sold in Selkirk, bonkers.

We like delivering pints in traditional glass bottles. This saves on the waste of land fill and avoids wasting fossil fuels moving and recycling plastics. We believe milk keeps better and tastes better when stored in glass. If there any bottles that say 'wiseman' it's just because milk bottles move around and they have the most bottles in circulation.
